A belief
that "art is a process of stretching beyond boundaries and limitations
in an attempt to evolve as a spiritual being" inspires Groenemann's
intuitive paintings. This approach necessitates exploration of both the
medium and the self.
If you
find your emotions touched, it may be because Groenemann shares herself
through this work on a very deep level. She believes that art is an outward
expression of inner intensity and invites you to see and feel her experience
as it inspires your own. Add to this the expanse of good design, vibrant
color and the intimacy of detail and you have a work of art with Universal
appeal.
Groenemann's
book on creativity and personal growth, Through the Inner Eye: Awakening
to the Creative Spirit is filled with her award
winning art and poetry. It has been translated into Japanese. Her work
has been exhibited from St. Louis to California and is becoming even more
widely known throughout the country by her workshops that feature the
creative process as a process of self discovery.
Artist's
Statement:
I create what I call “intuitive” paintings. Some have come to call these abstractions Mystical Expressionism….meaning they touch upon something beyond the rational or physical realm. Yet these paintings evolve out of the mix of experiences that are mine as I live the human experience.
My creations on paper or canvas do not come from preconceived ideas. Instead, they come from the inner most chambers of my soul. In the process of creating I touch upon that place of “knowing” that reflects the essence of my spiritual self. It is in this sense that it is the process of creating not the finished product that is most important to me. It is the exploration of materials, thoughts and feelings as they combine to create form that speaks to me.
Yet, I believe that this place that I touch upon when creating is where we all connect, where we communicate on the deepest levels ; and though here the importance is not in forms, there is significance in the longings that my images evoke in the viewer. In this is the ultimate impact of my art. I call this approach to painting “painting from the soul.” Jan Groenemann
